giant sandbox

When the kitchen addition was dug out, the sand was tossed under the original house.  Now we get to remove it.  I filled buckets and Martin took them out.

The section of the backyard where the topsoil was removed is where we are dumping the sand, at least for now.
It was a long day of shoveling and hauling.  We still haven't gotten all of the sand out, but we are much closer.

messages on a board (well boards)

These two boards were next to each other as part of the flooring in an tigin.

This board (in two pictures) said, "Cal Sargent commenced this floor April, 1922."

This board (in two pictures) said, "This floor was laid October 20, 1922. Wm. H. Boynton, Cornish, Maine."

Joists are out

Martin removed joists and pulled nails while I got to drag them to the barn and stack them. The dirt floor underneath had scraps of wood tossed on it.  The builders also left small tree stumps which have rotted.  I spent some time picking up the bigger pieces of wood and then hard raking the dirt to get the small stuff gathered up.
