Building Permit

The building inspector/code enforcer for Cornish works Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. That's it!  Martin had finished drawing up plans and had them copied.  We made a special trip to Cornish to turn in our house plans and apply for a building permit.

We showed the building inspector/code enforcer the plans.  He double checked set backs because we want to increase the width of the house by four feet.  We didn't have the measurements from the sides of the property line to the house.  Martin and I quickly went to an tigin and took the measurements. Thank goodness there is plenty of room to add four feet to the width of the house.

After spending about an hour with the building inspector/code enforcer, we filled out the application for the building permit which was immediately approved.

We get to start digging out the basement and the septic system ASAP.

Mystery bush consultation

Cheryl, a co-worker and friend, thought the mystery bush might be some sort of fruit tree.  I have to admit, I was skeptical. Where would a fruit tree come from? Plus it really didn't look like a tree. Well..... The neighbor to the west has a huge old crabapple tree in the front yard (fairly close to where the mystery bush is growing).  The leaves look the same.  Hard to say if much else does.  The mystery bush does not have any crab apples or other fruit on it.  The poor scraggly thing is in a place where it gets very little direct sunlight and is in serious competition for survival.

My niece-in-law initially thought that it might be some sort of fruit tree also, since the picture of it with blossoms looks like something is forming at the base of the blossom. However, the last time I looked, a dead blossom or two was still hanging on, but that was it.

We'll be taking down the pine tree that is growing up in the middle of it. We'll see what next year brings us in terms of blossoms, etc.

an update on the outside

At this point the outside of an tigin doesn't really look much different.  Thought I'd add the most recent exterior pictures because soon, I hope, things will be looking different.
