exciting addition to the project

My brother and sister-in-law visited last weekend. They were excited to see the changes that have happened at an tigin in the past year.
While I was chatting about my plans for the kitchen, I mentioned wanting an antique cook range from the 1920s era, but the ones I had seen on-line were definitely out of the an tigin shoe string budget.
My sister-in-law has a friend who has (had now) a stove that fit the bill and the stove was for sale at a price that Martin and I can afford.
Needless to say, the stove is now ours. We pick it up at Thanksgiving time when we head to my mom's for the Thanksgiving family gathering.
The stove below is similar to the one we just bought (sight unseen). The handles are a bit different, the shade of green is slightly different, and Martin will need to do a bit of work on ours.

The burners are under the cover, that lifts up and slides behind the burners down the back, on the left. The oven is on the top right. The broiler is on the bottom right. There is storage space for baking sheets, pots, and pans on the bottom left.

foundations are waterproofed

I lucked out again! Last fall, I helped Martin waterproof the foundation of an tigin.  I thought that the recent weekend, I would end up spending it waterproofing the cement block walls of the barn and the new mudroom.
However, Martin beat me to the job. He finished it during the week, so I was off scot-free.

Roofless barn

Martin has supported and braced the walls of his workshop. Even so, it was a bit dicey for him to climb up onto the roof to remove the old shingles and wood.

Four down, plus more

The last foundation wall for Martin's workshop is done (below). Also Martin has the walls done for the mud room (above).

one more color choice and maybe a decision

 Blue Smoke
The three above only have one coat of stain on them.  The two on the right in the picture below have two coats.
Martin has decided that his color is a possibility.

 Weathered Barnboard
The three above only have one coat. The two below have two coats.
I am not enamored with this color.

This is our new color possibility.
Cape Cod Gray
It doesn't look exceptionally gray to me.
The three above have one coat. The two on the right below have two coats.
Martin and I agree that this is a color we both can live with.

 Birch White
The two above have two coats and the three below have one.
Martin really doesn't like this color. I really like it, but as long as we can agree on one of the colors, I am okay not having this color.

three done, one to go

The foundation walls on the east (above) and north (below) for Martin's workshop are done.
The west (below) foundation wall is done too.

One down, Three to go.

All the footers for the foundation of Martin's workshop (aka barn) have been poured. Guess I don't need to spend every weekend in September mixing concrete. THANK YOU, MARTIN!

And we have the first wall (well half wall because this side of the workshop ties into the house) done.  Only three more (full walls) to go.

6 month progress report

It feels like we have made more progress in the last 6 months than in the first year. I guess that is partly because a lot of the first year was used in emptying out junk and demolition. Then winter hit and slowed down construction progress
